Following the tabling of the auditor general of canada’s report on recruiting for canada’s military, the minister of national defence, the honourable david mcguinty, issued the following statement
“i welcome the findings and recommendations in the auditor general’s report on recruiting for canada’s military tabled in parliament today. Auditor says military recruitment is falling behind, base housing is in bad shape ottawa — federal auditor general karen hogan says many of the living spaces used by canadian armed forces members across several bases are in poor physical condition and ripe for overcrowding. Unless nddn does an extensive study on it or until the office of the auditor general releases its 2025 (planned) study into canadian forces recruitment, the quality of the data presented to the public will continue to be opaque and lacking proper answers. The canadian armed forces has been facing a recruitment shortage and lengthy delays in procurement of new equipment for years, which experts say have reduced canada’s military readiness.
