United has a shortaage of aircraft in general and would not use the resources it has to provide cheap connecting traffic, and most likely little local/high yielding traffic, to its partner carriers. They are using the a350 as a leverage to keep boeing honest. Looking forward to more nextified 738s and 739s this year
