Originally i had a @me.com account and then i moved over to an @icloud.com account As a result, your personal data is now at risk of being permanently removed from icloud However i am uncertain it the @me is still active or should i just delete it off my devices.

I finally found that going to settings > messages > notifications > badges, turning badges on, fixed it.
