Camping reservations are not available as all campgrounds are currently closed. Trail access north from rdo into big basin along the skyline to the sea trail is not expected to be restored for several years making equestrian camping at the site impractical during this interim period. The former campgrounds in the more sensitive old growth areas of blooms creek, sempervirens and wastahi are proposed to be removed and restored to old growth habitat

State parks is working to bring the public back to big basin following the damage caused by a series of atmospheric river storms in 2023 and the czu lightning complex fire of 2020.
