It's not necessary to use premultiplied alpha, only to make sure the background color is removed from partially transparent pixels Removing the background color may be part of the process of converting to premultiplied alpha, but it can be done independently as well. Your blending setup is correct However for blending to work the texture must contain an alpha channel, properly valued of course
