We were practicing ivs in class two days ago, and on his third try my partner nearly put my on my knees
I've had multiple blood draws and yearly vaccinations and i would maybe register those as a 1 on the pain scale. I have to have ivs often due to treatment and other various things Just don’t look when they go to do it Try to play on your phone or talk to someone distract your self for those couple seconds then it’s over
You can ask for a “ “butterfly” they’re smaller and hurt less but it just depends on your veins. I have a strong reflex reaction to getting poked with needles, so i tend to get faint when i need blood drawn or an iv inserted Now i do deep breathing exercises to keep my heart rate calm, and that did help it hurt less last time, and it helped me not get faint. The pain is mostly because the nurse/tech can't get into the vein and is jiggling around, going slow, or otherwise exerting more effort to get a viable stick If it's done correctly there isn't much difference based on the location But, as a practical matter, some veins are easier to hit than others, and thus result in less pain For ivs, there is an additional consideration of valves.
When i get ivs they can't draw blood from them, so they also have to use a butterfly needle too and last time she apologized and said the butterfly hurts worse then the iv, but for me, the iv always hurts worse. My first delivery i had the iv in the side of my wrist Every time i moved my wrist side to side it would hurt like a bitch And it hurt for weeks after
And when i mean it was on the side, i mean it was inserted into the left side of my wrist
I don't know why but delivery iv is insanely uncomfortable. Why do ivs hurt me so bad but tattoos and piercings don't I have cried multiple times when getting ivs Yeah that's embarassing to admit but it's true, it feels soooo much worse to me than getting any tattoo or piercing
I have 2 tats but have had many piercings and don't experience even close to the same pain as ivs.
