Smoke alarms probably have more federal organizations and consumer groups providing oversight than any other system in the home we inspect
In testing both types of detectors work and will alarm at different rates depending on the type of materials burning

So, i would think if the thermostat/ smoke detector is mounted at shoulder height, then no, it would not be acceptable. Smoke trails that one looks like something in the smoke detector burned out Notice that the black burn mark is 'on the plastic' and is 'wider and more concentrated' at the smoke detector, fading out as it gets higher and further away from the smoke detector I think that smoke detector is toast (or tried to be, anyway).
Ok thanks this is a new home and does have battery backup so i have recommended that they be afci protected but will also talk to the county to get it sealed for this area Thanks guys it is a pleasure being on this board and talking to you guys. My home inspector software states you must push test button on smoke detector to test it, , but does that test indicate the smoke detector is working properly or just that it has a good battery in place I would think you need to test it with a small amount of smoke.
